How It Works

You can easily participate in our collection of data on baobab trees around the world.  Follow the three easy steps below and become part of the citizen science initiative working to preserve these giant and ancient trees.

1. Find a Baobab Tree

Check our Baobab map

We have already begun to build our database so the tree you find may already be in there. The baobab can be anywhere in the world - not just Africa.

Determine if it is A New Tree

We love finding out about new trees but also like hearing about already mapped trees are doing. If it is already mapped, tell us which one it is.

2. Collect Some Data

geotag its location

If you are using a smartphone and have location services active your photo should be automatically geotagged. If not, you can use a GPS to obtain the latitude, longitude and altitude.

take some photos

Photos of the whole tree to show it's size and photos of the bark, leaves, flowers, fruit and seeds (if available) will be useful.

3. Submit The Data To Us

Fill out our online form

Send us the location, photos and any other key information you may have collected. Click the button at the top right of the screen to get started.

Tell us about yourself

You will be credited for any trees newly identified by you.
